In short

Salt is a single-ingredient product classified under HS heading 2501, which makes it one of the simplest gourmet categories to private-label: no recipe development, no cold chain, and a label whose mandatory content is short in every major market.

  • /01 Product selection — fleur de sel, sea salt flakes, coarse crystals, or fine sea salt.
  • /02 Packaging options — jars, tins, pouches, or bulk sachets.
  • /03 Branding with custom labels and mandatory content guidance.
  • /04 Logistics including export documentation and freight delivery.

The Process

How Does the Private Label Process Work?

Five stages structure the process, with a pilot run deliberately placed before full production.

  1. Stage 1

    Sampling

Graded salt samples are sent for evaluation.

  2. Stage 2

    Specification

Product details are fixed in writing.

  3. Stage 3

    Artwork and labelling

Your design is checked against the regulations of your market.

  4. Stage 4

    Pilot run

A small production run validates execution before you commit to scale.

  5. Stage 5

    Production and shipment

Full runs are packed and documented for export.

Hand-skimmed fleur de sel is a low-yield harvest — the surface film of a pond is a small fraction of its total salt output. Pilot runs typically start in the hundreds of units, with full production runs in the low thousands. One tonne of salt fills approximately ten thousand 100-gram jars.

Packaging

Which Packaging Formats Can Carry Your Brand?

FormatTypical fillPositioning
Glass jar with sealed lid100–250 gPremium retail shelf, gifting
Kraft or foil pouch100–500 gRefill lines, zero-waste stores
Decorative tin75–150 gBoutique, hotel amenity, souvenir
Mini jar or sachet10–50 gSamplers, wedding favours, minibar
Bulk food-grade bag1–25 kgBrands packing in their own facility

Eco-conscious brands typically pair the pouch or kraft formats with the harvest story: sun evaporation in palm-trunk palungan troughs is a genuinely low-energy production method.

Compliance & Fit

Who Private Label Is Right For

The strongest private-label cases share one trait: an existing audience that trusts the brand more than it knows the category.

/01

Gourmet grocers and delicatessen chains

Where a house-branded finishing salt strengthens the own-label range.

/02

Chocolate and confection makers

Who already name the salt in their product descriptions.

/03

Hotels and resorts

For amenity programmes, minibar formats and boutique retail.

/04

Creators and chefs with engaged audiences

Where the audience trusts the name more than it knows the category.

/05

How label compliance is handled

Food sold in the European Union must carry the mandatory particulars required by the EU food information rules, including product name, net quantity, and operator address, and other markets impose equivalent requirements. We provide the product data needed — ingredient declaration, origin statement, net weight, lot coding — and flag missing mandatory elements before printing. Final legal responsibility remains with the brand owner.

FAQ

FAQ: Private Label

What is the minimum order for private label?
Pilot runs start in the hundreds of units, which exists specifically so brands can validate packaging and sell-through before committing to scale. Full production runs are quoted from the low thousands of units where filling and labelling costs stabilise. Exact minimums vary by format, because jar, tin and pouch have different setup economics.
Can you match an existing packaging design?
Yes, provided the format can be filled and sealed to food-grade standards. You supply artwork and reference packaging; feasibility is confirmed during the pilot run, and mandatory label content is verified before printing.
Do you also supply the salt in bulk for us to pack ourselves?
Yes. Brands with their own filling capability order food-grade bulk bags from one to twenty-five kilograms and handle packing domestically, which shortens their replenishment loop and moves compliance fully in-house. Bulk supply includes standard grading and lot traceability, and many brands operate bulk and origin-packed formats in parallel.
Can we visit the salt farms before committing?
Yes, and serious private-label partners are encouraged to. Visits to Amed's salt-making area can be arranged by appointment to observe palungan troughs, hand-skimming, and sorting processes — providing authentic brand storytelling material and due-diligence confidence.
